Primary 5 Mathematics
Students will experience a drastic shift from Primary 4 Mathematics to Primary 5 Mathematics. There is more focus on problem solving and heuristic questions. Calculation becomes more intense and some inference skills are required. This will also be the focal point of the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE). Starting Mathematics with SHHKCA from Primary 5 prepares you well for the P.S.L.E.
There will be three main focuses in the lessons:
Concepts Empowerment
-
Students will be empowered in their various Mathematical concepts, such as:
-
Whole Numbers, Fractions and Decimal,
-
Area of Triangle and Composite Figures,
-
Ratio,
-
Volumes of Cubes and Cuboids
-
Percentage
-
Average
-
Rate
-
Angles properties
-
Types of Triangles and finding the unknown angles
-
Types of Quadrilaterals
-
-
Students get to think through the concepts as teachers use inquiry-based techniques with higher order thinking questions.
-
Students get to apply different strategies effectively to solve problem sums. They will be familiarised with the different strategies and be able to apply them with ease.
-
Students will also be provided with the unique skills and techniques in solving different forms of heuristic questions.
-
Students will be able to apply concepts in real-life scenarios.
Thinking processes
-
Students will learn the 5 ‘What’s’ in problem solving.
-
Students will be familiar in applying the steps with the 5 ‘What’s’ to cover all aspect in solving each problem sum.
-
Students will learn checking techniques that also strengthen their understanding of the various concepts.
Metacognition
-
Students will learn through the process of learning.
-
Students will reinforce their learning through posing problem sums, based on the strategies which they have acquired.
-
Student will crystallise their learning processes and have a clearer understanding of what they have learnt.
