World Environment Day

Air Pollution is not a new problem. What is new, however, is the awareness of exactly how bad it is for our health.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution-related diseases claim seven million lives each year.

In 2018, studies linked air pollution to everything from millions of cases of diabetes to lower intelligence levels. Air pollution is also altering our climate, with profound impacts on the health of the planet. It comes from many sources such as cooking, coal-fired plants, vehicle emissions, industrial furnaces, wild fires, and sand and dust storms.

The problem is most acute in urban areas, particularly in Africa and Asia.

We can all do our part to reduce air pollution, from using more efficient fuels or clean energy, to commuting on foot or bicycles, reducing waste burning, better management of agricultural practices, etc.

At Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Cultural Academy, we teach our students to practise good eco-habits like switching off electricity when not in use, reduce waste and recycle, etc.

To instill knowledge and practice on recycling, our after school care (SchoolAfterSchool) students used old cardboard for craft work.

Come find out more about our After-school care programme or Pre-school at www.shhkca.com.sg.

Our Pre-school and After-school care are open for registration now.
